Case study · Giesecke+Devrient

Producing for a multinational

Giesecke+Devrient designs security technologies. The metal frames and mounts of its equipment demand consistency and documentation. Here is how we meet them.

The client’s problem

The parts assemble with components from other plants. A hole off by a millimetre blocks assembly on the other side of the world.

Every lot had to be traceable and come with a measurement report. Few shops in the region did that without a surcharge or a delay.

What they sent us

  • Production drawings with critical dimensions and tolerances identified.
  • A specification on lot identification and documentation.
  • A staggered delivery schedule.

What we changed in the design (DFM)

  • Mounting holes and slots made at the laser cut, to hold ± 0.2 mm without a secondary operation.
  • Welding sequence defined to limit distortion on the critical dimensions.
  • A simple check fixture built to verify every lot with the same setup.

How we produced it

  1. 01

    First article

Measured on all critical dimensions, report sent to the client before the lot started.

  2. 02

    Sampling

One part in 50 checked during the lot, results recorded.

  3. 03

    Documented lots

Pallets labelled by lot and order number, inspection report attached to every delivery.

The result

Lots accepted on receipt, with the requested documentation, at no surcharge. The same process now serves our other clients who require a report per lot.

Documentation is not an option added at the end. It is planned from the quote.
